Pick His Brain!
I’d like to introduce one of our members, Daniel Doan, for our next ‘Pick His Brain’ session and I want to thank him for the participation.
Daniel is a world class growth marketing consultant, digital marketing strategist, and copywriter with many years of experience building brands.
Growing communities, and directing marketing strategy for hundreds of venture-backed tech startups, creatives, and eCommerce companies worldwide.
He is also great with growing an email list using his unique style of copywriting.
Please feel free to pick his brain on anything related to digital marketing and growth hacking strategies.
You can check out his video on TEDx Talks.
Note: Since he has a busy schedule, he may take time answering questions.
Here are the rules.
1) I’ll let the thread go on until he asks me to stop. Theoretically, this thread can continue until the FaceBook stock value goes to zero.
2) Please, no snarky remarks. I will not tolerate any intentional negativity. We are here to learn from each other’s success and strategies.
3) Please do not PM him and bother him. If you have a private question, ask for his permission on this thread when appropriate.
When are you launching the Banana secrets ebook?
What do you suggest for a newbie blogger on email list building. I feel embarrassed to send email to people? Not that I have tons of subscriber but I still have no courage. Just have no clue how to start, sometimes I get stuck at the wordings.
Deploy a lead magnet, then start with a simple set of 4 sequenced emails.
First one welcomes them to your list and gives them value, second one gives them value + links to your blog, third one does something similar, fourth one gives them something special + has a small ask.
What resources/books do you recommend for copywriting?
Neville Medhora’s stuff is really good. Gary Halbert’s stuff. Copyhackers dot com.
What tactic do you engage to get copywriting leads and Jobs?
I just do a lot of copywriting on my Facebook wall and on other groups.
Most of which is satire, but it gets the point across that I know what I’m doing and have been doing it for a long time.
What is one thing people underestimate when getting into digital marketing?
I think the #1 thing is that most newcomers think that they can pick up digital marketing overnight.
But in reality, it takes a minimum of 2-3 years to get somewhat competent at it, and then a lifetime to master the craft.
What tactics, other than lead magnets, do you have to get people to sign up for email newsletters? Any good copywriting tips or tricks for the real estate space?
Haven’t done much work in the real estate space, but creating useful tools for your target audience works extremely well as a lead magnet.
Think useful calculators, software, or spreadsheets that make your audience’s lives a lot easier.
Offer those in exchange for an email. Go beyond simple eBooks.
What is the main thing you see companies get wrong with their scaling plan?
Many startups try to scale too fast for their own good, or they’ll attempt to scale with a shaky team.
Having the right people in the right spots is key — make sure the team is rock solid.
